Lucero -- Women & Work
With their latest release Women & Work, their first on ATO, Lucero has continued down the path they started down on the last album....incorporating plenty of Memphis horns and soul to their gruff Southern sound. This album is by far their most accessible, and could see them gaining more traction in the mainstream world (outside of their usual die-hard fans). Even Ben Nichols vocals are cleaned up a bit and not so raspy....but not too much so to piss off their long-time supporters.

And speaking of continued growth, Justin Townes Earle just keeps getting better and better. This album has a beautiful simplicity to it, and shows JTE has the songwriting chops to last in this business. And as a stark contrast to most recording processes these days, this one was recorded completely live in the room, at the awe-inspiring Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC (I've had the pleasure of working there a couple times this year with Ponderosa).
