Big K.R.I.T. -- Live From The Underground

The much anticipated debut from Mississippi rapper/producer Big K.R.I.T. has finally arrived, and it does not disappoint. Not a groundbreaking album by any means, Live From The Underground is more of a throwback. It borrows heavily, and unapologetically, from Southerplayalistc/Aquemini-era Outkast,Ridin' Dirty-era UGK, Soul Food-era Goodie Mob, sprinkled in with some good old fashioned DJ Screw...which to me is a great thing-- hip-hop when it still had soul. I'd listen to alot more rap today if it had stayed more in this wheelhouse.

K.R.I.T. gives an obvious nod to his Southern heroes with the list of old-school legends that appear as guest artists: including Bun B, 8Ball & MJG, and even Devin The Dude. His lyrical themes are a little tired, too much emphasis on gold grills and Cadillacs, haters, etc... but a very solid album nonetheless!

Recovering today after the gorgeous nuptials of Molly & Clint. What a perfect weekend and a perfect wedding. So happy for you two! The wedding was quintessential Molly with a reading from an old war letter written by her grandfather and Joni Mitchell playing during dinner. I want to go back and enjoy the evening all over again. 

Loved getting to catch up with old college friends. My side hurts from laughing about as much as my feet do from dancing.

The weekend is here! It is time to celebrate Molly & Clint.

Sending so much love and huge hugs to the happy couple. Smalls, I could not imagine college without you - endless hours watching Felicity & Gilmore, midnight runs to Nico's, sharing new music... the list goes on. You are the best and you found your perfect match.

Holy teardrops, my friends! 

Aside from Thomas J's devastating death by bee attack in My Girl, I am not a big crier in movies. But, this short documenting a man's last day with his dog before having to put him down had me reaching for the Kleenex box - literally.

I saw this video on Imogene + Willie and had to steal their header. No one will ever love you like your dog. 

I am completely morbid, and drive Mr. Fonty crazy talking about how sad I will be when Ryman dies. Watching this video just made it even worse. I love you buddyman!

Anders Osborne -- Black Eye Galaxy

Anders Osborne's story is an interesting one. He was born in UddeValla, Sweden in 1966...at 16 he left home, and hitchhiked and played music all over Europe, North Africa, The Middle East, Asia, and the U.S. He eventually settled in New Orleans around 1985, and has called the American South home ever since, spending his time in Louisiana as well as Nashville (where he works as a professional songwriter, a resume which surprisingly enough includes a #1 Country hit for Tim McGraw).

I've been a fan of Anders' music for some time, but I think Black Eye Galaxy is his finest work. The album is bluesy, gritty, rockin', soulful, and just about everything in between.
